Clack Mountain Festival 2010 Highlights

Well, we had a really good time at the Clack Mountain Festival in Morehead, Kentucky this weekend. We have a daughter who is three years old now so she was old enough to get into the festivities. It really did my heart good to see her enjoying the music and even getting out there and dancing. She says her favorite instrument is the banjo, mine is the mandolin. There’s just something about the sound of bluegrass mandolin that moves me.

This was the 3rd annual Clack Mountain Festival and bands performed on the Moonlight Stage, next to the Cora Wilson Stewart Moonlight School on First Street.

We got to hear some folks for the first time and we got to hear some of our favorites too. Larry Cordle and Lonesome Standard Time was awesome! I have heard Larry and his band on the radio many times but it was a real treat to see them…   Read the rest of this article

Clack Mountain Festival 2010 Update

clack mountain festivalI can hardly wait for the Clack Mountain Festival this year. There isn’t much better than live Bluegrass music. I especially look forward to hearing Chris Stapleton with The Jompson Brothers. I caught Chris when he was with the SteelDrivers at the Clack Mountain Festival in 2008. Dave Evans and the Tommy Webb Band are both awesome and either one of them alone would make it worthwhile to get yourself over to this festival.

You’ll see me there taking pictures and enjoying the whole thing!

The Tommy Webb Band

I have seen Tommy Webb and his band perform live at several different Bluegrass Music Events. These guys are from Floyd County, Kentucky where it just so happens I did a lot of my growing up.

Tommy Webb has a natural voice for Bluegrass music and is one of the finest singers you’ll find. These songs have that cool, authentic Bluegrass sound and carry a contemporary and relevant message.

If you havent heard The Tommy Webb Band you are in for a treat. Come to think of it even if you have already heard of them this will definitely be a treat! Give a visit to The Tommy Webb Band’s official website (link below) to set your eyes on their current schedule. If these guys are playing anywhere in your area you ought to go have a listen!

Old Mill Bluegrass Festival

14th Annual Old Mill Bluegrass Festival in West Liberty Ky

This weekend I had the pleasure of listening to some live bluegrass music. Me and a friend drove over to West Liberty to check out the Old Mill Bluegrass Festival. This is the 14th year for the Old Mill Bluegrass Festival. I do love live bluegrass music and there was some great stuff to hear.

One of the best things about a live bluegrass festival for me is that I often get the opportunity to hear groups for the first time. Two groups in particular that I had never heard before was Buck and Company and the Kati Penn Band. Both groups were excellent, I would definitely recommend getting some of their music!

It was also good to see some of my favorites at the festival. Tommy Webb Band, The Grascals and Don Rigsby are always welcome at a bluegrass…   Read the rest of this article

Clack Mountain Bluegrass Festival

The Clack Mountain Bluegrass Festival Morehead, Ky 2009

This crazy hillbilly is crazy about Bluegrass Music! If you don’t dig Bluegrass then maybe you just haven’t stopped to take a listen to it.

Yesterday, June 6th, my family and I attended the Clack Mountain Festival in Morehead, Kentucky. I enjoy a lot of different styles of music but Bluegrass Music is my favorite, especially when it is live. The Clack Mountain Festival is held every year in early June. Admission is only $5.00 which is really an excellent deal to get to sit back and listen to awesome bands like Hazel Holler and the Tommy Webb Band.

I got the opportunity to talk with Ralph Stanley, Tommy Webb and Michelle Wallace of the Hazel Holler Girls and to hear a lot of great Bluegrass Music. The atmosphere was so friendly and I think everyone had a good time. A lot of folks came…   Read the rest of this article
